Neck Lift Houston
Because your face is the focus of your entire look, the features that closely surround it have a direct affect on your overall appearance. The condition and appearance of your neck can greatly diminish your natural beauty, and without the right treatment, there is no way to properly address the issue.
In cases where the condition of your neck has reached a point where it has significantly deteriorated and is now negatively affecting your confidence and comfort in social situations, a neck lift may be recommended.
A neck lift can be performed to remove excess fat beneath the chin and tighten loose skin in the neck to give you a rejuvenated and younger-looking appearance. A neck lift is a much less invasive alternative to a face lift and provides exceptional results. The procedure can produce dramatic results in a patient whose chin and/or neck has sagged with age or after weight loss.
Good Candidates For A Neck Lift Procedure
There are many factors that can affect the results of your neck lift. Knowing which factors are in your control and which factors can lead to potential risks or complications is incredibly beneficial when deciding if a neck lift is the best procedure for you.
In general, Houston men and women who are considering receiving a neck lift should be healthy individuals with concerns about sagging, excess skin, or excess fat in the neck area. This usually occurs after the age of 40, but if you have premature aging in this area, or are genetically prone to a sagging neck, a neck lift can be performed at any age in order to maintain the appearance of your skin and prevent the diminishment of it.
The ideal neck lift candidate must be in good physical health and excellent mental health. A thorough medical evaluation will be performed during your initial consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Donna Rich. During your consultation, Dr. Rich will also collect any information that may be pertinent to the neck lift procedure and will address any questions or concerns you may have regarding the procedure.
Liposuction to the neck area is an alternative procedure for those with a fatty neck but who do not have additional issues regarding the appearance of their neck, as it will eliminate extra fat in the neck but does not provide the same benefits as a neck lift. Neck liposuction does not eliminate loose neck skin or diminish the appearance of wrinkling or fine lines on the neck, so it’s best for those who have youthful and resilient skin or those who do not require extensive rejuvenation in the neck area. Liposuction is performed as a critical part of a neck lift, as it is necessary for the removal of the excess fat in the area, but it is only one part of the entire process.
How A Neck Lift Procedure Is Performed
Your neck lift procedure will be performed at our Houston cosmetic surgery practice. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia in our accredited operating suite. Incisions will be made in order to allow Dr. Rich to properly excise, tighten, and adjust the skin of the neck. Dr. Rich will make the smallest incisions possible so that they are unnoticeable. Dr. Rich accomplishes this by hiding them behind the ears so they will be nearly invisible after healing has occurred. The skin of your neck will be pulled up and back and any pockets of fat will be removed through the use of judicious liposuction.
Once the liposuction is complete, Dr. Rich will excise any excess skin in the area in order to reduce sagging and wrinkling. The remaining skin will be tightly pulled over the neck muscles in order to create a sleeker, more toned, and more attractive neck. Dr. Rich will apply a compressive bandage immediately following the procedure that you will need to wear for the next few days following the procedure to aid in the healing process.
What To Expect After Neck Lift Surgery
Because a neck lift is a significant surgical procedure, you will have some soreness immediately following the procedure and for the first few days after your procedure. Dr. Rich can prescribe pain medication in order to help you manage any pain or discomfort, but most of our Houston neck lift patients do not require anything stronger than Tylenol or similar products for this discomfort. There may be some noticeable bruising in and around the area where the procedure was performed, but all this is completely normal and will fade within a week or two.
Dr. Rich will see you in her office for a post-operative visit within two days following your procedure. She recommends that you avoid strenuous activities such as lifting, exercise, or sports, and physically demanding activities like running. Mild physical activity like walking will aid in the healing process. You will need to wear the compressive garment until she tells you that it is no longer needed.

Neck Lift FAQs
Q: Are You a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
A: If you have problems such as excess neck skin, a turkey wattle, and jowls, you may be an ideal candidate for a neck lift. Good candidates for a neck lift are in excellent health; patients who are in poor health have a greater risk of complications during any surgical procedure. Smokers are not ideal candidates, as smoking can affect the healing process.
Q: What Happens During a Neck-Lift Consultation?
A: When you go to Dr. Rich’s office for a consultation, she will discuss the neck lift with you in great detail, including info on the various techniques she uses to perform this procedure and the types of anesthesia that can be used. She will also perform an examination of your neck and ask you about your medical history.
Q: What Happens During a Neck Lift?
A: The neck lift starts with anesthesia to make the patient comfortable. Incisions are made below the chin and sometimes behind the ears. Once the muscles are tightened, the excess fat is removed, and the excess skin is trimmed, the skin can be redraped. Finally, stitches are used to close the incisions.
Q: When Can You Go Back to Work?
A: After your neck-contouring surgery, Dr. Rich may ask you to stay home from work for at least two weeks, especially if your job is particularly physically taxing. Strenuous activities can cause issues with the recovery process. Your doctor may provide a supportive neck wrap to aid in the healing process.
Q: How Long Do the Effects of a Neck Lift Last?
A: The best aspect of a neck lift is the lifespan of its results. When it comes to this cosmetic procedure, you can expect the changes to last for at least 10 years. To ensure you get the best results, you should make sure to take good care of your skin after your procedure.
