Professional Eyelid Surgery in Houston
Cosmetic eyelid surgery, sometimes called a blepharoplasty or eyelid lift, removes excess skin and fat from your lower and/or upper eyelids to minimize bags and tighten skin. It’s a wonderful way to create a more youthful look!
Good Candidates For An Eyelift Procedure
Healthy Houston men and women with concerns about drooping upper eyelids and/or puffy lower lids (bags under the eyes) are excellent candidates for an eyelift procedure in our Houston plastic surgery office. Those with more extensive brow drooping, either due to aging or genetics, may wish to consider a forehead lift instead of, or in addition to, a blepharoplasty. During your private consultation with Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth, they will review all your options and review the anesthesia, potential risks, and your expected recovery. Drs. Hustak and Wentworth’s plastic surgery office is located in Webster, TX, convenient to Houston, Galveston, Clear Lake and Pearland. A recent ophthalmologic exam, within a year, is necessary. A history of dry eyes, glaucoma, thyroid disease, diabetes, bleeding tendencies, high blood pressure, and/or cardiovascular disease may be contraindications for an eyelift procedure.
How An Eyelid Lift Procedure Is Performed
Blepharoplasty can be performed under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation in our accredited operating suite. An eyelid lift is an outpatient procedure but still requires the services of an anesthesiologist. The actual surgical time will vary with the amount of surgery necessary for each patient, but cosmetic eyelid surgery usually requires 1-2 hours. Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth will make the smallest incisions possible, hiding the upper lid incisions within the creation of the upper lid, and lower lid incisions hidden in the lash line.
What To Expect After An Eyelid Surgery
After surgery, you’ll be most comfortable if you keep your head elevated, even while sleeping, for a few days. Applying ice will provide comfort, as well as Tylenol. You will have some bruising and swelling and might have blurry vision because of the eye ointment. You will have small Steri-strips over your incisions. At your first post-operative office visit, your sutures will be removed, after which you can apply makeup. Sun protection is paramount to prevent exposure to fresh eyelid incisions. After several weeks, exercise can be resumed including bending and lifting, contacts can be worn, and you’ll start to see the final, youthful results!
FAQs About Blepharoplasty
What is a blepharoplasty?
A blepharoplasty, also known as an upper or lower eyelid lift, is a form of eyelid surgery. During this surgery, excess skin removal, fatty tissue alteration, and muscle tightening are usually performed.
When will my sutures be removed?
Sutures are removed between four and five days from the date of the procedure. Makeup can then be gently applied.
How much bruising will I have?
The eyelid skin is very thin, so most people will have some bruising that settles below the lower eyelid. This bruising can last two weeks.
How is the procedure performed?
The upper eyelid incision should fall in the crease of the upper eyelid. Skin and sometimes a small amount of fat will be removed. The lower eyelid incision can be in the lower conjunctiva or below the lower eyelashes (called a subsidiary incision). Usually, fat will be removed or relocated, the muscle tightened, and some excess skin removed.
When can I return to work?
Most patients can return to work after the suture removal in four to five days and can apply a concealer if there is still bruising.
