Intense Pulsed Light Treatment Houston

Twice each month, Bayview Plastic Surgery offers hair removal and photorejuvenation treatments with the Palomar Pulsed Light System. This system offers the most versatile, effective and comfortable aesthetic treatments available. Here are just a few of the treatment options that the Palomar Pulsed Light System offers.

Hair removal – Unwanted body hair can be a difficult and frustrating issue to handle on your own. Some areas of your body are incredibly difficult to reach using just a razor, and many people find shaving to be a time-consuming, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful process that they have to repeat on a regular basis. The Palomar Pulsed Light System makes hair removal easy and pain free. After a few sessions, you will have silky smooth hair-free skin.

Wrinkle reduction – There are multiple factors that can cause wrinkles and fine lines to form on the skin. Sun exposure and the effects of aging are just a few of these factors. The intense pulses of light emitted by the Palomar Pulsed Light System penetrate the layers of skin and help to tighten and strengthen the skin. This effectively reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Leg veins – Noticeable leg veins and unsightly spider veins are common issues. Leg veins can be uncomfortable and painful, and having spider veins on your face can significantly reduce your comfort with your appearance. IPL treatments can destroy unsightly leg and spider veins so that your skin has an even and attractive complexion.

Acne – Acne is one of the most frustrating skin conditions to deal with because of how difficult it is to find a treatment that caters to the unique needs of your skin. IPL treatments offer a highly effective way to manage acne for a wide variety of skin types.

Rosacea – Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes red patches of skin to form across the face. In some cases, small bumps similar to pimples may form on these irritated patches of skin. IPL treatments make treating rosacea much easier and much more comfortable for the patient.

Age spots – Age spots, sun spots, or any other discolored patches of skin can really diminish the natural beauty of your skin. Discolorations can be difficult to avoid because of frequent exposure to the factors that cause them. IPL treatments are the perfect option for restoring the even, healthy, and beautiful glow of your skin.

The Palomar Pulsed Light System

There are a lot of different options when it comes to intense pulsed light systems. Unfortunately, not all of these devices are built equally, Some of these options offer poor results that leave the patient feeling disgruntled and unsatisfied. At Bayview Plastic Surgery, we strive to provide our patients with the best results possible. We use the Palomar Pulsed Light System, a high-quality device that offers outstanding results.

Palomar Systems use specialized handpieces that filter light from different parts of the spectrum. Each band of the spectrum has a wavelength that is ideal for different treatments, such as hair reduction, sunspot removal and acne treatment. The system can be easily adjusted to address specific skin issues, and multiple issues across different areas of the body can be treated at once.

Pulsed light systems and lasers are very similar, but Palomar Pulsed Light Systems use a much larger treatment window than most lasers. This spreads light over a wider area of skin and allows faster coverage of the skin and quicker treatments as a result. The Palomar system makes it easier to remove hair from the back and chest since it can easily treat these large areas quickly and painlessly.

Any area, except around the eyes, may be treated. This includes the upper lip, face, neck, underarms, bikini line, legs, chest and back. During treatment, the treatment provider will move the handpiece over the patient’s skin, pulsing it all the while.

Each pulse will send a beam of light through the skin. A flashing light, an audible tone, and a mild sensation on the skin will tell the patient when the handpiece is being pulsed.

Immediately after treatment, you can expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by some minor swelling. This usually lasts 2-24 hours, and can be soothed with cold gel or ice packs. Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve permanent hair reduction and a few treatments will be necessary to treat sunspots, rosacea and vessels. Our team will help you to figure out a treatment schedule that works for you.

With regard to hair removal, the treated hair will continue to appear for 7-30 days post-treatment. This is not new hair growth, but the treated hairs being expelled from the skin. At any given time, some of the patient’s hair is not in a phase of active growth. Therefore the patient will need more than one treatment to affect the growth of all the patient’s unwanted hair. The exact amount of treatments needed will vary depending on the size of the area being treated and other factors.

With regard to photorejuvenation, sunspots will typically darken after treatment and be naturally shed from the skin within 1-2 weeks. After treatment, spider veins may disappear or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days. * It is important to stay out of the sun prior to and following any Pulsed Light treatment.* If you should have any other questions about the procedure or surgery, please call the office at (281) 286-1000.

Intense Pulsed Light Treatment FAQs

Q: What Is the Intense Pulsed Light Procedure?
A: Intense Pulsed Light is a kind of cosmetic treatment where your skin is treated with short and safe flashes of bright light to attain the desired skin improvements. The technique is very popular and is largely used to treat sunspots and age spots. The technology is calibrated to precisely control the amount and speed of light delivery.

Q: Which Parts of the Body Can IPL Treat?
A: IPL is quite versatile and can be used on the face, chest, hands, neck, and other parts of the body.

Q: Am I a Good Candidate for Intense Pulsed Light Treatment?
A: The main goal of this procedure is often skin rejuvenation. Since rejuvenation is based on the absorption of light by hemoglobin and melanin, patients tend to be ideal candidates for the procedure if they have light-colored skin with no suntan at the time of treatment. However, the technique can be used to treat varied skin colors, since it comes with pre-programmed settings that ensure the right energy output for different skin complexions.

Q: How Many Treatments Do I Need?
A: Most people need 3-5 IPL treatments to see full results. However, it depends upon the extent and number of skin irregularities you have. The more you have and the darker they are, the more sessions you may need. Improvement can be seen with each treatment session.

Q: What Is an IPL Treatment Like?
A: Most patients tolerate IPL well and get through it with ease, while some experience mild discomfort. If you have a low tolerance to pain, talk to Dr. Rich about it. A topical numbing agent can be used to make such patients feel more comfortable.

Q: How Long Does an IPL Session Last?
A: Each Intense Pulsed Light session lasts anywhere between 30-90 minutes. However, it might take longer if the treatment area is large and has extensive sun damage and redness.
