Aging is part of life. But for many, the skin ages prematurely, making them look older and tired. There are several reasons why the skin ages prematurely, the most common being improper skin-care regimens, poor nutrition, and sun damage.

Wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin create an older appearance. It is possible to get rid of these signs of the aging process with the help of facial-rejuvenation procedures.

Facial rejuvenation is a term for cosmetic treatments that aim to restore a youthful appearance to the face. Rejuvenation can be achieved using a number of surgical or non-surgical treatments depending on the patient’s preference. One of the most popular, effective, and long-lasting surgical facial-rejuvenation procedures is the facelift.

The Facelift

A facelift, also called a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess sagging facial skin and smooths out underlying tissues. The results of this surgery provide the patient with a youthful, wrinkle-free appearance.

There are several techniques that are used in a facelift. Every procedure is different depending on the specifics of the case, but the end result is the same: youthful skin devoid of wrinkles and signs of aging.

A facelift tightens the loose and hanging skin around areas of the mid and lower face like the jawline, chin, and neck. It removes a number of deep creases around the mouth and nose. In some cases, the procedure can be combined with other treatments for more comprehensive results.

The Consultation

A facelift starts with a consultation with Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth. She will determine whether the patient is a suitable candidate for the procedure by analyzing the facial skin. The patient’s medical history will be considered to decide whether they are suitable as a candidate, as will several other factors. Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth will then create a treatment plan.

The Facelift Procedure

Local or general anesthesia is administered before the procedure begins. Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth will then create an incision. The incision is made in the temple area behind the hairline and continues down in front of the ear, circling around the earlobe and back up to the point where it started. This is done in such a way that it is camouflaged after the surgery.

The skin is lifted, and then Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth reposition and tighten the tissues of the region. Fat may be removed. The excess skin is trimmed carefully, ensuring that the patient’s features or facial proportions are not altered.

Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth will then close the incision with sutures, staples, or skin glue as required. Sterile surgical gauze is used to completely cover the incision site to avoid any infections. Follow post-operative care directions carefully to ensure quality results and a shorter and more comfortable recovery.
