The potential incision sites for a breast augmentation procedure are generally discussed at the time of the patient’s consultation with their plastic surgeon. One basic principle of surgery is good access, and the inframammary site is an option that is very close to the area the implant is placed.

The inframammary site is located in the crease below the breast. It can also be placed slightly above the crease or slightly below the crease. Because it has many advantages, this incision site is the most commonly used option for breast augmentation.

When preparing the pockets for the breast implants, this site gives excellent access to the area. Another advantage of the inframammary site is that the location allows the plastic surgeon to go underneath the breast rather than through the breast, as is the case with other incisions.
