Brachioplasty Makes Upper Arms Look Youthful and Fit
Being in better shape can be a major confidence boost. Who among us doesn’t want a toned and fit look? To achieve this, we put in hours of hard work and effort in the gym, follow a nutritionist-recommended diet, and live a healthy lifestyle, even when our busy schedules make it hard to do so.
At times, though, no matter how hard we work, the results we expect do not seem to appear. This can be very disappointing. The upper arms are often incredibly difficult to tone up and instead sag embarrassingly. Fortunately, cosmetic surgery has a solution: brachioplasty.
What Is Brachioplasty?
Brachioplasty, also known as an arm lift, is a cosmetic procedure that is used to tone and lift the upper arms to improve a person’s overall appearance. The objective of an arm lift is to contour the arms by getting rid of loose sagging skin and excess fat.
Prior to the Procedure
You will need to meet with Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth before your procedure for a consultation. Make sure to inform them of your drug allergies and all medications you are currently taking in order to rule out any complications that might arise during the surgery.
You will be asked to refrain from smoking and taking painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin before your procedure, as they are blood thinners and can pose a risk during the surgery. Make sure to have realistic expectations in terms of your results.
The Brachioplasty Procedure
At the beginning of the arm lift, you will be administered either general anesthesia or local anesthesia with IV sedation. A choice between the two will be made based on a number of factors, including your preference and Drs. Hustak and Wentworth ’s preference.
Dr. Hustak and Dr. Wentworth marks the area to be contoured and makes incisions along the back of the arm or on the inside of it. She then removes excess fat through liposuction. Once the fat is removed, the tissue is tightened and the skin is redraped over the arm. The incisions are then sutured closed.
After the Procedure
Results can be seen almost immediately after the procedure. Complete recovery may take anywhere from two weeks to a month or so. During this period, patients are advised to limit activities that involve physical exertion. You will be asked to refrain from lifting weights and other heavy objects.
The stitches must be kept clean and dry in order to avoid the risk of infection. Immediately after the surgery, you will notice some slight swelling and bruising. This is quite normal and is a side-effect of the surgery. The swelling can be brought down using an ice pack or cold compress. Once the swelling has fully ameliorated, you will be able to see the full results of the procedure.
In order to maintain the results of your arm lift, you will be required to follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a proper well-balanced diet and exercise.
