In 2013, there were a total of 15.1 million cosmetic procedures. Of that number, 1.7 million procedures were surgical. The most popular cosmetic surgical procedure of 2013 was the breast augmentation. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there was a reported 290,224 breast augmentations performed last year alone, more than any other year.

In 2014, that breast augmentation trend continued. Though breast augmentations actually experienced a slight decline from the previous year, breast augmentations still remain the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States. In total, 286,254 breast augmentations were performed in 2014.

Another noteworthy breast augmentation trend involves the two basic types of prosthesis to choose from: saline and silicone. Silicone is by far the most popular choice of the two.

How popular, you may ask? In 2013, 72% of the breast augmentations performed used silicone implants. One reason behind this disparity is the growing number of form-stable silicone gel implants, also known as gummy bear implants. These implants are ideal for providing a natural teardrop shape in the breasts and are similar in texture to a gummy bear, hence the name.

Because of the more natural look and feel, we should expect them to become a rising breast augmentation trend.
